Mixed Media Altered Tiles

Happy New Year to blog readers out there.  One of my resolutions this year will be to TRY to post more often!!!

Last year in June I met up with online friends from the fantastic  Cardmaking Paradise forum  at Craft Barn Extravaganza, I decorated 2" ceramic tiles (to share with friends) with magnetic tape on the back to use as a fridge magnet. This was placed in a origami paper box and fastened with ribbon looped through a button I decorated with Sharpies.  I came across the photos and thought I would share with you.  The credit for inspiring me to make these tiles goes to Littlecanvases (Ytube name)  who appears to have closed her account.

Altered Tiles

I painted and stamped a large vintage newspaper sheet (well 1960's) glued to the tile, added images, foiled the edges, added accent beads and glazed with Glossy Accents.

Paper Boxes

The paper boxes are very easy to make and there are several videos online.

Decorated Buttons

The buttons were fun to do, I had several white buttons so sat evenings and played around with them. To finish I rolled the edges along a Versamark pad and into embossing powders to heat emboss.  I glazed with Glossy Accents again, careful not to cover the holes.

Buttons

Excuse my shoddy foam pad, it is much used and abused!

Here is the finished package.

  1. Wow - these are absolutely stunning Sheel - I absolutely adore each and every one of them. I have sadly been neglecting my polymer clay for a while now . I think that I should get it out of storage over the winter and have a play

  2. So beautiful Sheelagh, love them all. I was wondering how you managed to stamp on glazed tiles so well, is the answer in the paper glued on first?? I have a box of these little tiles and have been putting off decorating them because I couldn't guarantee I wouldn't have smudges and slipped stamped images galore!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Gorgeous keepsakes for your forum friends to treasure.

  5. Did you hand draw all those buttons, then, Sheel? Gorgeous tiles - each one so different. Lucky recipients!
