Mixed Media Boards

Over the next few posts I shall be sharing the wonderful finished boards
that the members of our Craft Club had great fun with.

Everyone started with a 12" square mdf board, I had sealed one side
ready for everyone to decide on how they would decorate them,
several ideas were given beforehand including a fabulous
inspirational video by Einett Kessler, which you can find here

Some of us concentrating!

We all brought along our boxes of treasures to glue to the board, (well some people would
call it junk)  most of us worked completely out of our comfort zone,
but we threw ourselves into it and couldn't wait to see how
they would all take shape.
Paint, gesso, stencils, inks and extra embellishments were also available.

Here we will start with Tanya's masterpiece,
an absolutely awesome Mixed Media art piece.
.

Placing of pieces on the board

Using photographs printed onto canvas of her son Theo, she surrounded
these with personal items relating to Theo.

Part finished

Tanya was the only one of us who decided to use black gesso which has been
used to great effect, finishing with shimmering ink sprays and alcohol inks.

Medal Board

Not my usual crafty share but something I worked on recently for my
son Robert's birthday.  Three days spent in the shed with painting
and drilling, but worth it when I gave it to him and saw his look of surprise.
So here it is, a board to hold his medals and on the left, hooks and
bulldog clips to hold his running bibs.

After I had finished painting (3 coats of paint) I didn't like the patchy finish,
so I gave it a good sanding and it ended up with a sort of denim finish
which I preferred.  I stamped the verse on the left with Archival Ink,
for "Celebrate Every Mile" letters were from my hoarding pile of Grunge board die cuts
painted with silver Distress Paint.

The verse below seemed appropriate as he is a huge film fan.

Running verse

He runs regularly and has completed quite a few half marathons both here, Paris and Helsinki..
However I may have overdone it with the hooks, but he has plenty of time to fill them up!

I purchased a large sheet of mdf  and after cutting the above board
I asked the diy shop to cut the remainder of the sheet into 12" square panels,
ready to use at one of our craft group meetings.
A mixed media board is on the cards, just got to organise it now.

APRIL PENNANT SWAP

For the background of my swap this month, I used torn layers of papers glued to chipboard, then metal tape around the edges.

My swap

Here are all the lovely swaps we enjoyed at our last craft day from those taking part, it is really interesting to see how different they are. I will have a great banner at the end of the year to hang in my craft room.

March Pennant Swap

Here we are in March which has brought with it better weather and our latest Craft Group meet up!

Below are the fabulous banner pennants some of the group made and swapped this month.  As you can see there are lots of different techniques and styles.

The room was a hive of activity all day with a mix of crafts.  Jane brought along her Embellisher machine and several of us had a go, a couple of us where smitten and may well take this up at a later date.  I must say I could see that it could be addictive, a great way to use up fibres, ribbon and such to produce unique artwork on felt backing.   Below you will see the result of a short play with different fibres, don't laugh as I am sure I could improve with practise.

Happy crafting until the next time!!!

4" Swaps from 2013

I received wonderful 4" Swaps last year from members of our Craft Group.

Of course there was always the choice to join in with the swap.

Inevitably we sometimes received more than one from the same person over the course of the year as not everyone entered the swap every month.

They are all fabulous and I love the collection of different styles from friends.

As you can see from the book above I adhered each to black card and bound them with black ribbon as I could not find book rings big enough.

I used mini bull dog clips and chain as a closure.

Pennant Swap

February has swept in along with the start of our monthly Craft Club meetings.  It was great to see everyone again and catch up on all our craft buys.

This year we decided to hold a swap again, we had two templates and could make either to swap.

The fabulous pennants below from left to right are by:-  Annie, Tanya, Liz and Pamela

Next is a gorgeous pennant by Linda on the left and mine on the right:-

As you can see they are all very different using several techniques.

It will be up to each member at the end of the year to join their swaps together to create a banner for their craft room or keep them in a book using book rings.

I shall be posting photos of the 4" swaps I received in 2013 over the next few days.  Until then....
