Harston Mixed Media Clay Mosaic Workshop - September 2016

Here to share the results of a workshop I ran in September for our craft club members,
we used Air dry Clay by Fimo, this particular clay can be cured in a microwave
which is ideal to create, cure, paint and glue to a board on the same day
instead of waiting for the clay to dry within 24 hours.

Here is one of my board samples.

Another which was my original sample

Tanya enjoyed putting all these tiles together.

Lisa had fun and included family names here and there
with a space for a family photo to add later

Jane's board is fab and I love the monochrome colours used
with a pop of red.
Here is the finished board

Jane's board before painting.

Pamela took her time to paint her tiles

and brought her nearly finished board along for us to see in October
for this photo.

Must give a huge credit for the inspiration for my boards to Laurie Mika and her fabulous book Mixed Media Mosaics that sadly I think is out of print now.  Though she uses
polymer clay and I adapted some of her techniques to use for air dry clay, it was still more than inspirational.  Until next time.

Harston August Swaps

Back with another swap from some of our club members
we decided to swap wooden spoon dolls, an idea suggested by Annie.
All so very different.

Mine

So many delightful additions to this spoon by Pam

Annie used a spatula which helped create the
hair really well.

This is a small spoon and Tanya managed
to give the doll shoes, legs and underwear.

Liz surprised us all with this beautifully crafted doll, all hand stitched with
a petticoat under the skirt.  I was the lucky recipient of this doll.

We liked this swap so much we have decided to repeat it again for next
month, so looking forward to that.

Now onto July and below are the swaps

Annie, Liz, Pamela and Meeee

While at the club this month I decorated a large MDF key with other smaller keys, covered with gesso and then gilding to highlight.  It was a present for my daughter who likes...Keys.

May Harston Swaps

Summer is on the way, the weather outside on our Craft Day
was hot and sunny, more to come we hope.

My swap this month was very last minute and a little plain,
I painted the frame with Fresco paint and highlighted with silver Rub n Buff.
The quote is a Sheena Douglas stamp which I stamped onto
gelli plate ink printed paper using a feather stamp to lift off the ink.

This super plaque is from Annie which is gorgeous, the
photo does not do it justice.

Pamela had fun with this board decorated with flowers and air dry clay
embellishments.

Liz went to town on her swap with a board tag book

each page decorated with vintage images on the back and front.

on our craft day Liz hand stitched these little mice in felt,
they are so cute!

Jane brought along her friend Linda who had a great time
putting together this canvas with various stuff in her stash,
she later covered all with white gesso before she left
to finish it at home, it already looks great.

April Swap

We had a great time this month sharing ideas and had a stamping session using Tim Holtz Crazy Cats, welcoming Liz back from her cruise and last but not least we had our swap session.

This is my small box with a decorated 4" ceramic tile on the lid, I used alcohol inks and finished with an acrylic gloss spray sealant.

Pamela produced this wonderful little bird house, so many little details, look at the little birds, made with air dry clay and painted with even a necklace of teeny beads on one of them, such patience.

Annie has excelled herself again with this stunning frame, all made with one sheet of 12 x 12 scrapbook paper, the video on how this is made is here by Lea Denton of The Crafty Spark

Annie also embellished the mini carrier bag that held the swap, fab..

That is all for this month, looking forward to May when we might have an additional member or two.  Until next time....

Harston Swaps - March 2016

Belated happy new year to everyone!  After a late start and  family visits over I now have time to update the blog with the latest swaps at our craft club.

Here is my swap, it is on a 5 x 7" canvas board using the large Tim Holtz butterfly die, with embossing folder to bring out all the detail.  I have used a spoon for the body covered in a painted strip of Tyvek then heated, this curls the edges which I touched with gilding paste.

I created several of these boards which could be used for journal covers for last year when a group of our lovely forum members from Cardmaking Paradise met up for a workshop here in Harston, we usually exchange a little something at these events. The following is a photo of all the boards.

Liz produced a fantastic swap with this intricate box which opens out to display several trays, wonderful Liz!

Annie went to town with these strips of tickets, which I was lucky to swap with her.  They are great and so handy to attach to different crafts.  But will I use them or just look at them mmmm?

Pamela had fun with this treasure box, so much detail, absolutely fantastic.

Annie also decorated this treasure box for the February swap, but unfortunately she was the only one that brought along a swap, so I have included it with this months swap. It is a very steampunk design with nuts and bolts all over and inside a lovely surprise of mdf pieces to use.

That is all for March, back soon with April swap, until then....
